WAIFEM's Fellowship Development Programme Launched

WAIFEM has launched its Fellows development programmein June 2003. The Fellows Programme is the Institute's initiative under which talented senior officials involved in debt and reserves management functions are selected to undergo intensive training and professional exposure in order to attain "world-class" level of expertise in the performance of their functions. The programme was designed as a short to medium-term response to the issues of regional ownership and the availability of expertise that will be tapped on a sustainable basis for filling technical capacity gaps identified in key areas of debt and financial sector management.

The Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) is an organ of the Federal Republic of Nigeria responsible for designing and implementing the development programme for the Niger Delta Region of Nigeria.
To achieve its objective, the Commission is in the process of developing a master plan for the region. Consequently, several studies covering Agriculture, Aquaculture, Arts & Culture, Education, Social Welfare and Water & Sanitation, etc have been commissioned as part of the process of designing an integrated approach to development of the region.

An invitation was extended to WAIFEM by the co-ordinating consultant to NDDC Master Plan Messrs GTZ/Wilbahi to bid for one of the sector studies. Following a presentation made on behalf of the Institute by the Director General, Dr. Chris O. Itsede, WAIFEM was selected as the sector consultant to handle the social welfare sector study.
